Biography
An independent-minded singer, songwriter, and producer, HARLOE channels alt-R&B through poised vocals and candid songwriting. She merges the Grammy-nominated craft she developed alongside Ella Mai and Charli XCX with a sultry, introspective approach on releases such as the 2020 EP Rivers Run Dry and the 2021 single “Overthinking.”
Raised in Queens, New York, by a Ukrainian and Romanian family devoted to music, HARLOE began classical piano studies at four. At eleven she decided to pursue songwriting after absorbing Alicia Keys’ “Fallin’.” Jazz and hip-hop shaped her direction as she shared early material online and enrolled at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute. Following several years split between New York and Los Angeles, she established herself in L.A. as a songwriter, contributing to projects by Charli XCX, Britney Spears, Celine Dion, and Kelly Clarkson. In 2018 she received a Grammy nomination for her contributions to Ella Mai’s self-titled album.
HARLOE simultaneously launched a recording career, issuing her debut single “All in My Feelings” in late 2016 and the introspective “More Than Ever” in 2017. She joined Robin Schulz on “All This Love” in 2019 and unveiled her own songs “Rivers Run Dry” and “One More Chance.” Along with “Crush on You,” these tracks formed the March 2020 EP Rivers Run Dry. That year she also teamed with Sak Pase for “Need You” and released the seasonal single “Just Ain’t Christmas.” Early 2021 brought the Rivers Run Dry Remixes EP, which included reworkings by Latroit and Pretty Garter. Adopting a vintage soul and disco palette, she recorded “Liquid Truth,” “PWR RNGR,” and “Overthinking” at Abbey Road Studios with Nile Rodgers; the tracks later appeared together on an EP issued late that year.
