Hayden Calnin, an Australian vocalist, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and studio craftsman, first surfaced in the early 2010s with a close-up yet subtly expansive style that blended atmospheric folk-pop and electronic accents. His initial outing arrived in 2012 via the City EP, which featured the streaming favorite "For My Help." Subsequent work saw him sharpen his approach across the ambitious 2016 double album Cut Love and the sweeping, introspective 2021 release What It Means to Be Human.

Residing in Melbourne, the largely self-directed artist pursued sound-design studies during film school and applied that training to a thriving production practice, overseeing recordings for fellow musicians while placing his own material in series such as The Good Doctor, Suits, The Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf, and So You Think You Can Dance. The 2012 City EP marked his recorded debut; its track "For My Help," which called to mind the textured indie-folk territory of Bon Iver, James Blake, and Tom Odell, accumulated more than seven million streams and directly led to Cut Love, whose standouts included "Caution Cares" and the sweeping title track. In 2019 he unveiled the atmospheric streaming single "Warm with You." After moving to the Pacific Coast in 2021, Calnin wrote, performed, and produced What It Means to Be Human, which, like the earlier projects, appeared on Nettwerk Records.
