Hej Matematik

Hej Matematik! formed as a Danish pop duo whose debut full-length record, the 2008 album Vi Burde Ses Noget Mere, yielded multiple singles and earned praise for its intelligent songwriting. The pair consists of Nicolaj Rasted alongside his uncle Søren Rasted, who previously achieved sustained commercial success as a member of the dance-pop act Aqua, internationally recognized for the 1997 smash “Barbie Girl.” The two first appeared under the Hej Matematik! name during the summer of 2007, issuing the single “Gymnastik,” with “Centerpubben” arriving several months afterward. Later that year the duo placed Vi Burde Ses Noget Mere with the independent Copenhagen Records imprint and promoted it through additional releases such as “Du & Jeg” and “Walkmand.” Of those tracks, “Walkmand” stood out as a seasonal favorite, climbing to number three on the Danish singles chart. Its unexpected traction, despite having been issued initially as a standalone release, prompted an expanded version of Vi Burde Ses Noget Mere that appeared in July 2008 and advanced into the Danish albums chart’s Top Five by summer’s end, having earlier reached only number 15 after its February debut. The group then joined Sony Music Denmark in 2013, issuing the singles “Ik Ordinær” and “Cykler Uden Hænder.”
