Biography
Contemporary R&B singer and songwriter Hylan Starr crafts highly melodic material influenced by Tevin Campbell, Usher, and Chris Brown. Based in Atlanta, he developed an audience during the 2010s through social-media postings, issued his initial commercial tracks near the close of that decade, and achieved widespread attention in 2020 via the Universal-distributed Wolf Pack Global Music single “Fool.” Subsequent recordings adopted a bolder stance, among them “Bitch You Is a Hoe,” the Lil Baby collaboration “Don’t Make Me Beg,” and the polished six-track Room to Grow EP that arrived in 2024.
A Tulsa native, Starr began treating music seriously in his early teens. He built his initial following by posting covers of August Alsina, Tyrese, Khalid, and numerous additional artists on social platforms. His first official releases comprised the 2018 EP Dear RnB, which featured reworked versions of Tevin Campbell’s “Can We Talk” and Tyrese’s “Sweet Lady.” His partnership with Wolf Pack Global Music commenced with the 2020 breakout “Fool” and extended through further singles including “Bitch You Is a Hoe,” the Sean Garrett-produced “Don’t Make Me Beg,” and the Wale-assisted “If Pretty Was a Person.” He later signed with Eric Bellinger’s All Wins Entertainment imprint, releasing the Bellinger collaboration “Overdrive” and a handful of additional 2023 singles. In 2024 a few standalone tracks preceded the September arrival of Room to Grow, an EP that merged earlier material with new recordings.
