Formed in 1990 in Gavle, Sweden, the group that later became Isole began its existence under the name Forlorn. Guitarists and vocalists Crister Olsson and Daniel Bryntse anchored the project from the outset, enlisting a rotating cast of supporting players to lay down early demos in hopes of attracting attention for their doom-metal sound. Persistent lineup flux ultimately forced an extended hiatus after the 1994 demo Waves of Sorrow. Fresh momentum arrived from an unexpected quarter in 2003 when I Hate Records approached the core duo about a recording contract. Seizing the opportunity for a reset, Olsson and Bryntse recruited bassist Henka and drummer Jonas Lindtrom, adopted the moniker Isole, and issued their debut full-length, Forevermore, in 2005. A second album, Throne of Void, followed the next year. By 2008 the band had moved to Napalm Records and delivered Bliss of Solitude, an effort that earned widespread critical praise.
