Biography
Solitude Aeturnus traces its origins to 1987, when the musicians first performed under the name Solitude with guitarist John Perez leading the lineup from its earliest days during local appearances across the Dallas, TX area. Their debut full-length, “Into the Depths of Sorrow,” surfaced in 1991 on King Classic, only for the label to fold soon afterward. Roadrunner Records nevertheless secured the band the following year. The second album, “Beyond the Crimson Horizon,” arrived in 1992 and delivered the same hallmarks of quintessential doom metal—heavy riffs, loud vocals, slow, thundering drums, and doomsday lyrics—that had defined the first record. “Through the Darkest Hour” served as the group’s major-label debut on BMG records and led to a European tour plus support dates with Merceful Fate, granting the members the chance to spend time with their hero, frontman King Diamond. “Downfall” became the fourth and final release for BMG, while Olympic Records issued 1999’s “Adagio” after a three-year stretch devoted to label searches and nonstop touring.
