Formed in 2005, Ivoryline brought together vocalist Jeremy Gray, guitarists Scott Socia and Dusty Kittle, bassist Robert Woodward, and drummer Wes Hart, all of whom hailed from Tyler, TX. Having already issued two recordings together while performing as Dead End Driveway, the musicians adopted their new name upon completing their studies. Their high-energy approach to Christian rock quickly earned them a loyal regional audience across the South. A slot on the 2006 Vans Warped Tour drew the notice of Tooth & Nail Records, the Seattle imprint known for its roster of alternative Christian acts, leading the group to sign with the label and release its first full-length, There Came a Lion, in February 2008.

The album climbed to number 25 on the Christian charts and was promoted through extensive live dates that included the band’s inaugural national headlining tour. Guitarist Scott Socia departed soon after, leaving Ivoryline as a quartet. Rather than seek replacements, the remaining members recorded Vessels with producer Aaron Sprinkle; the harder-edged, more varied set arrived in stores in July 2010.
