British singer James Vickery crafts hypnotic ballads that fuse shimmering electronica with contemporary R&B. A string of early singles, notably “Lately” and “Until Morning,” drew initial notice and cleared the path for his first full-length release, the 2021 album Songs That Made Me.

Born in South London with a hearing impairment, Vickery trained under a vocal coach during childhood; that training revealed both his vocal talent and his passion for singing. In the early 2010s he began performing his own soul-inflected material while accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. Television competitions such as The X Factor and Open Mic UK formed the backbone of his first public appearances and introduced him to guitarist Phil Braithwaite and vocalist Lance Ellington. A pivotal link arrived in 2015 when indie electronic duo Disclosure featured his voice on the track “Flow.” Momentum continued the following November with the release of his debut solo single, “Epiphany.” Early in 2017 he issued his first EP, Complexion, whose lead track “Lately” was produced and co-written by Maths Time Joy.

One year later he returned with the EP Until Morning. Around the same period he appeared on the YouTube channel COLORS to perform the title song, issued as Until Morning: A COLORS Show; the clip quickly accumulated more than 17 million views and generated worldwide interest. Shortly afterward he secured recording and publishing agreements with Los Angeles-based Th3rd Brain and RocNation. In June 2021 he delivered his debut album, Songs That Made Me, which included contributions from EARTHGANG, Musiq Soulchild, and Rob Araujo & Jack Dine.
