German actress and musician Jeanette Biedermann, also known professionally as Jeanette, came close to training as a hairdresser until an Idol-style talent search organized by the German tabloid Bild altered her path. Born in Berlin in 1981, she first took the stage at age six as an acrobat with the Lilliput Circus and later enrolled in beauty school after finishing high school. Those studies were cut short in 1999 when she entered the Bild-Schlagerwettbewerb and bested thousands of other hopefuls. Victory led directly to her debut single, “Das Tut Unheimlich Weh,” issued later the same year. Shortly afterward she secured a recurring part on the German soap opera Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten, staying with the series through 2004. That year also saw the release of her follow-up single “Go Back,” which climbed to number nine on the German charts and opened the door for her first full-length album, Enjoy!, issued months later. A second Top 20 success arrived with the 2001 sophomore set Delicious, earning her an ECHO award in the process. Her third album, 2002’s Rock My Life, reached number seven and produced three Top Ten singles. Career momentum peaked the next year when the fourth album, Break on Through, landed at number six and achieved platinum status. The fifth project, 2006’s Naked Truth, met a noticeably muted response, rising only to number 14 before quickly slipping out of the Top 50.
