Hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, contemporary gospel and CCM performer Jermaine Dolly immersed himself in church life from an early age, where he took up piano, drums, and singing while still a child. His high school years brought additional involvement in theatrical stage productions, rounding out his development as a musician. At West Chester University he sang in the school choir and joined the ensemble Prayz1, whose opening slot for Tye Tribbett led to Dolly being recruited as a background vocalist on the star’s tour. Further collaboration followed when he appeared on Tribbett’s Grammy-winning album Greater Than. Dolly stepped out as a solo artist in 2015 with the single “You,” whose blend of personal conviction, falsetto, and Marvin Gaye-styled rolling grooves carried it to number 20 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart that April. Early 2017 saw the release of “Come and Knock on My Door,” the first single from his debut album The Dolly Express, issued that May.
