Biography
Following an extended period issuing tracks under the Kidepo alias, songwriter Jonah Mutono adopted his legal name to present his layered, R&B-infused compositions. The first album to appear under that given name, GERG, reached listeners in May of 2020.
Mutono’s engagement with music began early, advancing from childhood piano instruction to the creation of spiritually guided material in young adulthood. Relocations defined much of his life: born in London, he and his family lived for a time in the States before resettling in Uganda. After nearly ten years of study in the U.K., he returned to Uganda and launched his recorded work as Kidepo in 2016. Over the next several years he balanced solo projects with songwriting for other artists, ultimately relocating once more to Los Angeles. With the move away from the Kidepo pseudonym, his songs turned more directly toward themes of sexuality and the difficulties of concealing his identity. A series of singles preceded the arrival of his first full-length album, and GERG was issued in the spring of 2020.
