Biography
Born in Sicily, Joshua Ryan, a skilled DJ, remixer, and producer, later relocated to the United States. Several singles appeared on the Slinkey Records label, and he delivered notable remixes for the Coffee Boys, the X Cabs, and Paul Grogan. He also secured DJ performances across the United States.
Inspired by electronic techno acts such as Leftfield and P.I.L., Ryan devoted himself to intensive sessions on a Yamaha RX-7 drum machine and a Casio CZ-5000 once owned by his brother. Progress came gradually, yet the effort eventually yielded results.
His first single, the well-regarded “Hush,” came out on Slinkey Records, a Rampant sublabel. Three versions of “Don’t Look Back” were captured in 1998. Fragrant Records then issued the hit “Pistolwhip” the following year. The Pistolwhip album secured Ryan a deal with Fragrant Records and reached #29 on the UK pop charts. American audiences encountered his electric trance sound for the first time in early 2003 with the release of By Design.
