Biography
Having relocated from the U.K. to Atlanta in 1991, where he was born Kevin Bazell, Kazell built a following for sets that fuse house, trance, and breaks during his residency at the city's Liquid Groove club. After shifting to Los Angeles in 1999, strong performances at the landmark Spundae venue prompted Sander Kleinenberg, Deep Dish, and John Digweed to select him for support slots, while the Los Angeles Times named him the "hottest thing in warm-up." A guest appearance on John Digweed's Kiss FM show brought attention in the U.K., and locally he placed in the Top Five DJs at the L.A. Weekly's 2002 Music Awards. Vanguard Records subsequently enlisted Kazell and production partner Mike Hiratzka to remix Sinéad O'Connor's "My Lagan Love" in 2002. His first mixed compilation CD, Driven, followed in 2003 on the Black Label imprint of Velocity Records.
