Biography
Though Anthony Pappa had already performed at many of England’s leading venues, including Renaissance, Cream, Bedrock, and Ministry of Sound, it was his selection for the inaugural release in Global Underground’s Nu Breed series that finally drew widespread attention. A prodigy who captured Australia’s D.M.C. DJ championship at just 15, Pappa displayed uncommon promise from the outset. In his late teens he relocated from Australia to England’s electronic-music heartland, intent on rising to the pinnacle of international DJ ranks. By his early twenties he had earned recognition as a skilled turntablist and was performing across continents, yet he never joined the uppermost tier occupied by figures such as Sasha and Paul van Dyk. The appearance of his own mix albums on both the Renaissance and Global Underground series of compilations brought him measurably nearer to that long-held goal. In 2001 he was further showcased on the debut installment of Choo Choo Records’ mix-CD collection.
