Biography
The decision to name themselves KLIMT 1918 after Austrian painter Gustav Klimt's surname and the year he died strikes an improbable note, matched only by the Italian quartet's improbable evolution from the nineties death metal group Another Day into specialists in modern new wave, gothic rock, and progressive textures. Brothers Marco, who handles vocals and guitars, and Paolo Soellner, who plays drums, launched the project in October 1999 and immediately began testing softer textures on their first recording, the demo titled "Secession Makes Post Modern Music." Guitarist Alessandro Pace and bassist Davide Pesola arrived in 2002, lending greater cohesion without reshaping the emerging style ahead of the 2003 debut album Undressed Momento. KLIMT 1918 persisted in broadening its range on the 2005 successor Dopoguerra, drifting still farther from metal and absorbing darkwave alongside '80s new wave influences.
