Laura Welsh, a singer and songwriter, entered Britain’s music landscape as the frontwoman of Laura & the Tears, a genial indie outfit steeped in retro-rock that issued the lone EP Love Live On! in 2009. As the group started to fragment, the Staffordshire native shifted to London and devoted a full year to crafting material while charting her subsequent path. After a brief interval recording under the alias Hey Laura, she chose to proceed solo under her own name.

The material she developed took on deeper hues with electro-pop textures, prompting collaborations with producers Emile Haynie (Eminem, Lana Del Rey) and Dev Hynes (aka Lightspeed Champion) that secured a contract with Outsiders/Polydor. Multiple singles surfaced in 2013, followed by tour dates supporting Ellie Goulding and London Grammar. In May 2014 she stepped into wider view by supplying vocals for British electronic duo Gorgon City’s Top Ten single “Here for You.” Before the year closed, a self-titled EP surfaced ahead of her debut solo album Soft Control, slated for release in January 2015.
