Lawson comprise a quartet of English pop musicians. At the group's core stands lead vocalist and songwriter Andy Brown, who previously belonged to Avenue, while singer and lead guitarist Joel Peat, bassist Ryan Fletcher, and drummer Adam Pitts round out the lineup. The musicians came together in 2009 under the initial moniker the Grove before adopting the name Lawson to recognize the surgeon who treated Brown following his brain-tumor diagnosis. Their first single, "When She Was Mine," appeared in 2011, the same year the band supported the similarly styled boy band the Wanted on tour. Polydor Records issued the debut album Chapman Square in 2012; John Shanks, Carl Falk, Rami Yacoub, and additional producers shaped its sound, and the record reached number four on the U.K. albums chart. A year later the project resurfaced as Chapman Square Chapter II, expanded with new songs highlighted by the single "Brokenhearted," which featured rapper B.o.B. Lawson resurfaced in 2015 with the track "Roads," the first release from their sophomore full-length Perspective, which arrived in the summer of 2016.
