Formed in San Joaquin, California, the quartet Los Malandrines—also known as the Malicious—features bassist Euler, drummer Héctor, singer and accordionist Esau, and Claudia Veronica on bajo sexto. The members began performing traditional Mexican rhythms while still young, drawing their chief inspiration from musician Arturo Montiel. Prior to securing a contract with BMG U.S. Latin, the Norteño group issued its first recordings, La Suegra Metiche and El Lengua Suelta, on the independent Olmeca Music imprint. The ten-track album De Malandrin A Malandrin arrived in 2002 and spotlighted the hit single “Desmadrozo y Cabrón,” composed by Sacramento Ramírez of Los Razos.
