Biography
Emerging from Buenos Aires roots yet now based in Los Angeles, the collective Los Pinguos fuses the rhythms of its Argentinean homeland with flamenco-style guitar lines and pop sensibilities in the vein of the Beatles. The group formed in 1999 around the talents of Adrián Buono, José Agote, Juan Manzur, and Juan Manuel Leguizamón, initially performing at local parties and bars where it soon grew into a regional phenomenon. The move to the City of Angels took place in 2001 and led to an end-of-season party gig for the Fox television show Dharma & Greg. Persistent touring and industry connections drew the attention of producers behind the Star Search spinoff The Next Big Star, a contest the band ultimately won. Bass player Santiago Lee joined the lineup that same year, after which the resulting quintet signed with Peermusic. Four albums have appeared since then: Camino Bueno, Serenata, Live in Los Angeles, and 2006's Peripecias.
