Biography
Lucy Hale launched her career at a young age when she joined a vocal ensemble on American Juniors, a group that narrowly missed victory in the 2003 televised contest. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, the fourteen-year-old performer found her breakthrough in 2010 upon being cast as Aria Montgomery in the ABC Family mystery-drama Pretty Little Liars, which swiftly developed a devoted following. Capitalizing on that visibility, she turned her attention to music and issued her first full-length project, The Road Between, in June 2014.
Although the album embraced country sounds that echoed her Southern upbringing, Hale had previously performed pop material both with the American Juniors collective and in her lead role in the 2011 direct-to-DVD sequel A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song. That film appearance secured a deal with Hollywood Records in 2012, prompting early sessions for her debut; however, ongoing commitments to Pretty Little Liars delayed completion until producer Mike Daly joined the effort in 2014. Its opening single, “You Sound Good to Me,” surfaced in January of that year, climbed to number 21 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, and set the stage for the June album release.
