Biography
Marc Scibilia unveiled his distinctive melodic rock approach—blending rich pop textures with a folk-inflected, Dylan-rooted sensibility—via the 2007 release Fixity. The more pop-focused Out of Style EP marked his major-label entrance in 2015, while the 2018 single “Unforgettable,” a partnership with house producer Robin Schulz, reached the European charts. Seed of Joy, issued in 2020, remained rooted in his fusion of folk-rock and broad contemporary pop, yet he signaled a shift toward sparer arrangements on the forthcoming 2023 album Love You the Most, an intent already evident in its title track.
A native of Buffalo, New York, Scibilia grew up in a household of musicians compelled to pursue other careers for income; right after high school he relocated to Nashville with the goal of sustaining himself solely as a singer/songwriter. Fixity served as his sturdy debut LP when it appeared in 2007. The tour-exclusive EP From Brooklyn to Maine followed in 2009, and Sony/ATV offered him a publishing contract in 2010. Momentum built after “How Bad We Need Each Other,” drawn from his self-titled 2012 EP, earned prominent television placements. The subsequent 2013 EP The Shape I’m In emphasized an expansive, roots-driven style reminiscent of Springsteen. Exposure widened further when his interpretation of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land” aired in a car commercial during the 2015 Super Bowl, reaching millions of viewers.
Teaming with seasoned producer Butch Walker, Scibilia issued Out of Style—the I.R.S. Nashville (Capitol) debut—as an EP in late 2015 before expanding it into a full album in mid-2016. The club-oriented “Unforgettable,” again credited with German producer Robin Schulz, climbed into the Top 40 in Germany and Austria during 2018; a remix EP and the solo outing 7th & Christopher both surfaced the same year. His third studio album, Seed of Joy, arrived via Good Lander Records in 2020. A deluxe edition appeared in 2021 alongside the standalone single “Dressed for the Weather,” a collaboration with Thad Cockrell. Throughout 2022 a succession of singles emerged, among them multiple takes on “Smile” and “Love You the Most,” the latter serving as the title track for his 2023 long-player.
