Biography
Born as Marianne Gandolfi on February 18, 1962, in Montélimar, French jazz chanteuse Marianne James counted future jazz pianist Michel Petrucciani among her childhood companions. Guitar lessons came from his father, noted jazz musician Tony Petrucciani, while her adopted stage surname originated with her godfather. Academic training at La Sorbonne and Le Conservatoire National de Paris preceded the 1999 release of her debut LP, Les Mandarines. National recognition arrived through a co-starring turn in the musical theater spectacle L'Ultima Recital and a judging role on the television amateur showcase La Nouvelle Star, developments that directly preceded the mid-2006 arrival of her self-titled sophomore LP, a left-field commercial success.
