Biography
Los Angeles singer Mark Diamond crafts atmospheric, emotionally charged pop that blends introspective acoustic balladry with rhythm-driven electronica. Listeners first took notice after the moody 2016 EP Cosma appeared, then encountered a pair of follow-ups several years afterward in the form of 2019’s Hummingbird One and Two EPs.
Born in Seattle, Diamond spent his childhood accompanying his father, an airline pilot, on frequent journeys throughout the Pacific Northwest. Drawn to music early, he grew especially fond of the Beatles, R.E.M., and Coldplay. Songwriting began in his pre-teen years, and his first live performance occurred at age 12. After finishing high school he enrolled briefly at college, where he devoted much of his freshman year to playing piano inside his dorm room. During the sessions for his debut album an email arrived from the school informing him of his expulsion. Rather than lose momentum, Diamond relocated to Los Angeles and took a job at a coffee shop while continuing to pursue music. He released the debut EP Cosma in 2016. In the ensuing period he remained active with live shows and writing sessions, splitting time between California and London alongside writer and producer Richard Craker. The 2019 arrival of Hummingbird One and Two brought wider attention.
