Biography
Megasus came together in 2006 when Harmonix staffers behind the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises joined forces with local players Jason Kendall of the Amazing Royal Crowns, Dare Matheson from Made in Mexico, Ryan Lesser of the Laurels, and Paul Lyons in the Scared Stiffs, all intent on cutting material for Guitar Hero II. Their approach channels the spirit of Buzzov-en, Eyehategod, and Burning Witch through massively detuned, shuddering sludge metal that flattens listeners beneath a barrage of blown-out fuzz and thunderous drums. Early singles from the group surfaced inside video-game soundtracks, placing “Red Lottery” in Guitar Hero II and “Megasus” in Rock Band. Shortly thereafter, fellow Harmonix employee Brian Gibson—bassist for Lightning Bolt—stepped in to replace Matheson on drums. In 2009 the band issued the 7” single Seven Inches of Sorcery. The same year their debut full-length, Megasus, first appeared on limited vinyl before receiving a CD edition from 20 Buck Spin.
