Biography
San Antonio native Miguel Antonio discovered his artistic direction in the flamenco guitar traditions of Spain and South America. Beyond his international solo career, he has served as accompanist and touring musician for Jose Greco and His Ballet Flamenco as well as Maria Benitez's Estampa Flamenca. Born to a concert pianist, Antonio began formal music lessons at age four; at eight he took up classical guitar with Pepe Romero. During adolescence he further refined his technique under Andres Segovia, Juan Serrano, and Paco Pena. Although he enrolled at Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 1978, his most formative training occurred after he relocated to Spain to work with flamenco masters Mario Escudero and Sabricas. Back in the United States he joined Jose Greco's flamenco dance company, performing across North and South America from 1983 through 1987. In 1988 he presented solo recitals in Japan, Spain, and England while also touring once more with Maria Benitez's Estampa Flamenca. Between 1991 and 1992 he taught and performed in Mexico City at Universidad Oedagogias and Escuela Nacional De Mesia before returning to the United States for a role in the Broadway production of Man of La Mancha. He currently instructs flamenco guitar in Dallas.
