Biography
Emerging from the breakup of British djent pioneers Fellsilent together with TesseracT, the London-based transcontinental groove/progressive metal band Monuments started as a side project featuring John Browne of Fellsilent and Josh Travis from the Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza before developing into a full touring and recording unit. Their 2012 Century Media debut Gnosis attracted global notice through its dense mix of djent-fueled riffing and hook-laden yet highly intricate melodies, prompting the outfit to expand into a quintet in 2014 when Travis stepped aside and Chris Barretto of Periphery, Olly Steele, Adam Swan, and Mike Malyan came aboard. That same year brought Monuments’ second Century Media long-player, the punishing Amanuensis. The next year drummer Mike Malyan departed after sustaining back and shoulder injuries and was succeeded by Anup Sastry, who appeared on the group’s third studio album, 2018’s Phronesis.
