Biography
Originally hailing from Paris, France, Betraying the Martyrs fuse deathcore’s aggressive intensity with melodic elements drawn from symphonic and progressive metal, resulting in a dramatic European flair. The group came together in 2008 with vocalist Eddie Czaicki, guitarists Fabien Clévy and Baptiste Vigier, bassist Valentin Hauser, keyboardist Victor Guillet, and drummer Antoine Salin; they issued their first EP, The Hurt the Divine the Light, independently the following year. A 2010 roster shift prompted departures by Clévy and Czaicki, after which guitarist Lucas D’Angelo and vocalist Aaron Matts joined to support the band’s Sumerian Records debut full-length, Breathe in Life, released in 2011. Salin exited in 2012 and was succeeded by Mark Mironov on drums. The follow-up album Phantom appeared in 2014 and featured a commanding, widely praised rendition of “Let It Go,” the Oscar-winning hit from Disney’s Frozen. Mironov departed soon afterward, clearing the path for Boris Le Gal, whose first recorded work with the band surfaced on the 2017 release The Resilient. Lucas D’Angelo later stepped down, with Steeves Hostin taking his place for the fourth studio album, Rapture, issued in 2019.
