Biography
Already established as a British screen presence, Natalia Keery-Fisher entered the music industry in 2005 by issuing the hit single “Don’t Play Nice” under the performing alias Verbalicious. She subsequently replaced that alias with Natalia Kills after first taking her grandmother’s surname Cappuccini, and she rebuilt her musical approach around Lady Gaga’s theatrical dance-pop, 1940s film noir textures, and the electro-gloom associated with Depeche Mode.
Born in Bradford during August 1986, she secured the role of Sima in the BBC sitcom All About Me while still a teenager. Further television work came in Coronation Street, The Archers, and Casualty, after which “Don’t Play Nice” climbed to number 11 on the U.K. charts and appeared to launch a viable recording trajectory. The label collapsed shortly after the single’s release, yet she rebounded by becoming MySpace’s top unsigned artist; her independently produced Wommanequin EP then drew the interest of will.i.am and secured a contract through will.i.am/Cherrytree Records/Interscope/Dandyville. Demonstrating additional range, she wrote and co-directed the Quentin Tarantino-style web series Love Kills xx together with the film The Exhibition, both presented as extensions of her first album. Akon produced the resulting Perfectionist, which surfaced in German-speaking territories in April 2011 before reaching broader markets later that year. Kills also opened for Robyn and Kelis across Europe and contributed to the Far East Movement track “2 Is Better” on the group’s fourth album, Free Wired. In 2013 she returned with her second full-length release, Trouble, led by the single “Problem.”
