Natalie Taylor crafts smooth piano pop from her Nashville base, with lyrics that center on emotional experiences. Success with music licensing, particularly for screen use, followed the 2015 release of her independent EP Wildfire, and her introspective breakup ballad “Surrender” gained widespread traction toward the close of the decade through repeated television features and widespread social-media circulation that drove millions of streams.

Born in Alabama, Taylor spent her formative years in Birmingham absorbing country and R&B sounds; as an elementary-school student she performed numbers by Patty Griffin, Mariah Carey, and similar artists. She later pursued music studies at Vanderbilt University. In 2014 a cover she recorded of Sam Smith and Disclosure’s “Latch” appeared in an episode of the CW drama Beauty & the Beast. That same year she prepared the stand-alone track “Surrender,” then issued Wildfire as an independent EP in 2015. Over the ensuing period both that single and additional material secured placements in commercials and on programs such as Criminal Minds on CBS, Catfish on MTV, and Pretty Little Liars on Freeform. Key broadcast and online moments propelled “Surrender” to viral status, prompting Columbia to reissue the song in late 2019.
