Biography
One of the most successful Latin songsmiths of all time, Omar Alfanno is only now attaining the height of his acclaim. Although he issued several notable albums such as Cosas De Barrio...Callejon Y Esquina, Cuerpos Al Calor, Joe De Barrio, and En Torno Al Amor, his greatest achievements have come through songwriting. In 2001 he earned both a Latin Billboard music award as Songwriter of the Year and an El Premio/ASCAP honor as Composer of the Year, while his compositions also captured El Premio/ASCAP prizes in the salsa and merengue fields. “A Puro Dolor” was designated Super Song of the Year and “Son by Son” was chosen as Top Pop/Balada song. After scoring his initial success when Willie Colón recorded “El Gran Varon” in 1988, Alfanno supplied a steady stream of hits to Latin performers including Tony Vega, Luis Enrique, Melina Leon, and Jerry Rivera. His material likewise proved instrumental to the early breakthroughs of Gilberto Santa Rosa and Marc Anthony. Following his March 2001 signing with Sony, Alfanno established a fresh studio and founded the production company Dreams Factory in his adopted city of Miami.
