Hailing from Santiago, vocalist Polimá Westcoast surfaced during the 2020s among Chile’s most promising emerging artists after the reggaeton single “Ultra Solo (Remix)” achieved 200 million streams in 2022.

Born Polimá Ngangu Miguel Orellana and raised in the Independencia district, he first sang publicly at age nine as a member of the local church choir. After leaving college in 2015 to devote himself entirely to music, he waited until 2018 for his initial breakthrough releases: “Brokeboi” resonated locally as an expression of the “Brokeboyz” wave among young Chilean musicians, and the Ceaese collaboration “Te Quiero Ver” quickly surpassed 50 million streams.

Having released his debut albums No Love More Bitches and Las Crónicas de Ngangu that same year, Westcoast joined Sony in 2019 and issued the joint project EQUILIBRIO with Young Cister before the end of the year. The early Sony period brought a steady stream of singles, totaling 21 tracks across 2019 and 2020, alongside an expanding circle of collaborators such as Seven Kayne, Duki, Pablo Chill-E, Ak4:20, and Bizarrap.

The trap-focused follow-up Las Crónicas de Ngangu 2 arrived in 2021, further highlighting the rapper’s lighter, melody-driven approach.

February 2022 marked a major breakthrough with the Pailita collaboration “Ultra Solo,” which quickly gained traction on streaming services and reached number nine on the Billboard Global 200; a remix featuring Feid, Paloma Mami, and De La Ghetto later pushed the track past 200 million streams. Both versions earned multiple nominations at the Premios MUSA and Premios La Junta ceremonies, and Westcoast secured Best Reggaeton Artist as well as Song of the Year at the 2022 Premios La Junta. Additional successes that year included “Baby Otaku” with Pablito Pesadilla, “Kawaii” alongside J Balvin, and the Quevedo and Mora collaboration “Lacone.”
