Biography
Following the brief run of his Mourning Widows endeavor, Nuno Bettencourt launched Population 1 as a recording project. He performed every instrument on the self-titled album himself, just as he had on Schizophonic, and the record appeared in 2002 through Universal Japan. Seeking live dates to promote the material, he put together a band also named Population 1, enlisting Steve Ferlazzo on keyboards, Joe Pessia on bass, and Kevin Figueiredo on drums. The group played shows in Japan and Korea throughout 2003 and issued the Sessions from Room 4 EP the next year, with another full-length slated for early 2005.
