Qing Madi

Emerging from Nigeria with a multifaceted presence as an Afrobeats vocalist, composer, and performer, Qing Madi sparked widespread online interest both domestically and internationally through tracks such as the 2022 release “See Finish” and the 2023 offering “Why,” each appearing on her self-titled EP that arrived the same year.

Originally named Chimamanda Pearl Chukwuma at birth in Nigeria, she received early vocal encouragement from her mother, who had previously worked as a singer and dancer. During her involvement in school performances, church vocal groups, and ballet competitions that earned local recognition, Madi issued multiple independent EPs throughout her teenage years. The pivotal moment arrived in 2022 via a contract with the Nigerian imprint Jton Music, which promptly secured a partnership for wider distribution through Columbia Records. That year’s introductory track “See Finish” blended R&B textures reminiscent of the late 1990s and early 2000s with contemporary Afrobeats grooves, quickly turning into a TikTok sensation. The energetic successor “Why” sustained her domestic momentum, while the additional breakout “Ole” topped streaming charts across the continent. These three singles, including the Africa-wide streaming leader “Ole,” formed the core of her debut EP issued toward the end of 2023.
