Ratking surfaced in 2012 as a frenetic New York hip-hop collective. Patrick "Wiki" Morales, MC Hak, and Sporting Life were still mostly teenagers when Wiki-billed tracks first emerged from their Harlem base in 2011. Sporting Life assembled those raw laptop sessions in his bedroom, then uploaded them directly to video platforms where listeners gradually accumulated around the gritty, compressed beats and the jagged, spliced rhymes traded by Hak and Wiki. The trio began performing throughout N.Y.C. later that year, delivering high-voltage shows that led to a deal with Hot Charity, an XL Recordings subsidiary. Wiki93, their first EP on the imprint, appeared in November 2012. So It Goes arrived as their full-length debut two years later and featured contributions from King Krule, Wavy Spice, and Solomon Faye. The follow-up, 700 Fill, surfaced in 2015 with guest spots from Despot, Remy Banks, and Princess Nokia yet was released at no cost via BitTorrent. Hak declared his exit in June 2016, leaving the remaining members to proceed as a duo.
