Biography
Keyboardist Russ Irwin, a native of Huntington Hills on Long Island, New York, drew the interest of Charles Koppelman, who placed him on the roster of SBK Records. His self-titled debut album appeared in the autumn of 1991 and emphasized his strengths as a singer and songwriter. Although the record failed to register notable commercial or critical success, the ballad “My Heart Belongs to You” became a hit and reached the Top 40. Irwin issued no additional solo albums for the remainder of the 1990s, yet he devoted considerable time to supporting other artists. He joined former Tears for Fears member Curt Smith in the band Mayfield, which released its self-titled album in 1998. Toward the close of the decade he also performed live with Aerosmith and Sting.
