Biography
Simon Fuller, manager of the Spice Girls, assembled S Club Juniors in the same fashion as the earlier British pop act S Club 7, with the ensemble later adopting the name S Club 8. Open auditions held across the United Kingdom under Fuller's management produced the lineup in 2001, a process recorded for the CBBC series S Club Search. The eight vocalists—Jay Asforis, Daisy Evans, Calvin Goldspink, Stacey McClean, Aaron Renfree, Hannah Richings, Francesca Sandford, and Rochelle Wiseman—made their first appearance in 2002, serving as the opening act for S Club 7 at London's Wembley Stadium. That exposure placed the group on the full S Club Carnival tour alongside S Club 7. Also in 2002, S Club Juniors issued the album Together, which yielded four Top Ten U.K. pop hits. Rebranded as S Club 8, the act followed with Sundown the next year and scored two further Top Ten singles from the record. After appearing in the Fuller-created television series I Dream and contributing to its companion album Welcome to Avalon Heights, the group disbanded. Sandford and Wiseman later returned to the charts as members of the Saturdays.
