Born on 15 March 1968 in Genoa, Italy, Sabrina Salerno rose to prominence in the late 1980s as a disco-pop diva who briefly rivalled former UK “page three model”-turned-pop singer Samantha Fox for the title of Europe’s leading pop sex symbol. Following several television appearances across her native Italy, she began her recording career with the European hit “Sexy Girl”. Her breakthrough arrived in summer 1988 via “Boys (Summertime Love)”, a major European success that peaked at number 3 on the UK chart. Although the track itself was lightweight, its accompanying video—showcasing the curvaceous singer’s efforts to remain inside her swimming costume—drew far greater attention. The subsequent single “All Of Me”, produced by Stock, Aitken and Waterman, entered the UK Top 25, yet Sabrina’s visual appeal alone proved insufficient to maintain a lasting British chart presence. She continued to enjoy popularity across Europe and South America while dividing her time between recording and work in film and television.
