Biography
Drawing from the blues-laden bravado and the enigmatic, pounding kick-drum force associated with Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, Rainbow, and Black Sabbath, the hard-hitting quintet Scorpion Child from Austin, Texas, fuses classic rock, old-school heavy metal, and Southwest-infused psych-rock. The group formed in 2010 around guitarists Chris Cowart and Tom "The Mole" Frank, bassist Shaun Avants, drummer Shawn Alvear, and frontman Aryn Jonathan Black. They later signed with Nuclear Blast, which released the band’s self-titled debut album in 2013. Frank and Alvear exited the following year, after which Jon "The Charn" Rice, previously of Job for a Cowboy, assumed the drum chair. In 2015 the lineup expanded with organist AJ Vincent, and work began on the second studio album, Acid Roulette, issued in June 2016.
