Biography
Sean Maguire, a British performer recognized primarily for his appearances in multiple American television comedies, also briefly enjoyed modest success as a pop musician during the middle of the 1990s despite the questionable quality of his output. He entered the world in Ilford, London, during 1976, and initially gained widespread attention across Britain for portraying Tegs Ratcliffe within the youth-oriented educational series Grange Hill before taking on the character of Aidan Brosnan in the long-running serial EastEnders. By 1994, like several fellow cast members from that program, he ventured into recording music, ultimately achieving eight entries in the Top 40 without matching the peak successes attained by Nick Berry or Martine McCutcheon, all drawn from a pair of LPs issued across three years—the self-titled collection from 1994 together with Spirit in 1996. Yet after his 1997 release "Today's the Day," which attempted to embrace Brit-pop in a bid for greater artistic respect, landed poorly on the charts, Maguire abandoned further musical efforts in favor of his acting pursuits. During the subsequent decade he secured roles in U.S. sitcoms such as Off Center, Eve, and The Class, later assuming the central part in the 2008 spoof Meet the Spartans, a project that reached the summit of the box office despite receiving harsh reviews as a send-up of the movie 300.
