Shannen James

Australian singer Shannen James blends the confessional singer/songwriter pop of Taylor Swift with the dancy, synth-infused sound of the 1975 through her warm, ebulliently emotive delivery. After issuing the 2020 Arrows EP, she unveiled her first full-length album, Patchwork, which spotlighted her breakout single "Superstitious."

Born in Melbourne, Shannen James initially trained in dance and later pursued vocal instruction during adolescence. Her vocal coach urged her at age 16 to begin composing original material. Early admirations for Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston eventually gave way to an appreciation for Dido, Sarah Blasko, and LeAnn Rimes. Lockdown measures during the COVID-19 pandemic prompted her to share tracks online, which directly precipitated the 2020 release of Arrows. The EP’s title track and her 2021 single "Superstitious" both gained traction by appearing on Australian station Triple J’s Most Played chart. James returned in 2024 with Patchwork, again including "Superstitious" alongside tracks such as "This Mess" and "Breakfast with You."
