Biography
Kita Alexander emerged in the second half of the 2010s as an Australian singer and songwriter whose work fuses a warm acoustic base with lush synth pop and a beachy surfer aesthetic. Three of her early tracks—“Like You Want To,” “Hotel,” and “Between You & I”—each earned gold certification in Australia and registered on the charts. Following her third EP, The One, which arrived in 2022, she issued her first full-length album, Young in Love, in March 2024.
Born in Brisbane and raised in Port Macquarie, the singer-songwriter left school in her mid-teens to chase a music career. Searching Google led her to a manager, who then linked her with producers previously associated with Lana Del Rey as well as fellow Australians Sia and Empire of the Sun. Her sonic direction drew from Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens, Tom Petty, and Patti Smith, while a polished production sheen sharpened her pop instincts. Early attention arrived with the single “My Own Way,” prompting a 2015 signing to Atlantic Records. That year’s sunwashed debut EP, Like You Want To, placed its title track inside the ARIA Top 100. The 2017 follow-up, Hotel, performed even more strongly, driven by its lush and sultry title song.
For several subsequent years Alexander concentrated on standalone singles, incorporating a sample of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” into 2019’s “Between You & I,” her first release for Warner Bros. Additional singles appeared throughout 2020, among them “I Miss You, I’m Sorry” and “Against the Water.” She returned to the EP format with the seven-track The One in 2022, which spotlighted the low-key “Run” and the more rousing “Ocean Blue.” A series of 2023 singles, including the Morgan Evans duet “Date Night” and “Atmosphere” featuring Fisher, paved the way for her debut album. Young in Love surfaced in March 2024 and reached number 61 on the ARIA albums chart.
