London-born DJ, label founder, and producer Sherelle has drawn extensive acclaim for her intense performances that fuse footwork, jungle, breakbeat hardcore, and additional dance genres exceeding 160 beats per minute. Several years of activity preceded her sharp rise in early 2019 after inclusion in a widely discussed Boiler Room set, which triggered a surge in bookings and secured her a BBC Radio 1 residency. That exposure also brought her the Essential Mix of the Year award in 2020. As co-founder of Hooversound alongside Naina and founder of Beautiful, she issued her debut production, the 2021 single “160 Down the A406,” followed later that year by her first commercially available mix, Fabric Presents Sherelle.

Sherelle Thomas spent her early years in Northeast London immersed in R&B, hip-hop, and alternative rock. Exposure to various BBC radio shows throughout the 2000s, especially those hosted by Mistajam and Annie Mac, sparked her interest in dance music. During the 2010s she began DJing at the South London station Reprezent, where incorporating footwork—drawn from artists such as DJ Rashad and Machinedrum—helped define her style. Backing from crews and labels including Hyperdub and Juke Bounce Werk led to an opening slot for the Prodigy at Brixton Academy in 2017. By 2018 her sets merged footwork with jungle to powerful results. Her February 2019 Boiler Room performance went viral and established her as an overnight sensation, though it also sparked debate when another DJ rewound a track mid-set, an action viewed by many as disrespectful. The track in question, Fixate’s jungle remix of the U.K. garage classic “R.I.P. Groove” by Double 99, later emerged as an underground hit.

After the Boiler Room appearance, demand for Sherelle’s appearances grew rapidly, both solo and alongside 6 Figures Gang, the collective featuring Fauzia, LCY, Yazzus, and additional female DJs. She completed a year-long BBC Radio 1 Residency and received recognition as a breakthrough artist from outlets such as DJ Mag and Mixmag. With Naina she established the Hooversound label to champion multiple strains of high-BPM dance music. Standout mixes followed for Dekmantel and Bang Face, and her 2020 Essential Mix on Pete Tong’s program was voted the year’s finest.

In 2021 she released her debut single, the brisk “160 Down the A406.” That same year she launched Beautiful, a label spotlighting Black and LGBTQI+ dance producers, via a compilation that included contributions from Tim Reaper, Loraine James, and Kareem Ali. Fabric Presents Sherelle, an energetic installment in the London club’s mix series, arrived in November. “GETOUTOFMYMIND” surfaced in 2023 on a split single issued by Fabric Originals with I. JORDAN.
