Snowsa’s poised delivery and relaxed but exacting flow stand in contrast to the Connecticut rapper’s brief time in the studio. Having written her first songs only months earlier, she unveiled the laid-back party track “Yank Riddim” in 2018; the song quickly spread online and secured her a contract with Island.

Although she had nurtured a passion for music and poetry from childhood, Snowsa—also known as Snowprah and Snow La Flurr—did not begin composing her own material until the start of 2018, after finishing college and gaining local attention through party promotions and dance clips. Raised in Bridgeport and residing in New Haven from her teenage years onward, she made an immediate and lasting impact in the area with her third release, the Chill Shump-produced “Yank Riddim.” Its accompanying video included a dance sequence by Gangstalicious, who had been fatally shot the December before. Early 2019 brought “Freak Like Me,” yet momentum for “Yank Riddim” persisted until Island stepped in to reissue the track, first as a standalone single and soon afterward as a remix featuring Young M.A. Around the same period, Snowsa earned her initial major collaboration when she contributed a guest verse to Lykke Li’s “Sex Money Feelings Die.”
