Biography
Hailing from Jacksonville, Florida, Tokyo Jetz first drew notice through a sequence of freestyle clips filmed inside her car. Her delivery mixes sharp aggression with theatrical intensity, directing lyrics toward the brutal side of street existence while allowing room for playful and reflective moments. Since entering the scene in 2016 she has worked with T.I., Trina, and Kash Doll, and issued her third album, Cancel Culture, in 2021.
Originally focused on poetry, Shauntrell Pender took up rapping during high school. Her freestyles and mixtape tracks soon attracted interest from major rappers, prompting T.I. to sign her to Grand Hustle in 2016. She relocated to Atlanta early the following year and joined labelmates on a U.S. tour. Viral, her first project for the label, reached listeners in August 2017 after the summery single “Sunshine Baby” and the more contemplative “My Story.” Bonafide, the follow-up full-length, came out in 2018 after the EP 90's Baby and contained the single “The One,” with guest appearances by T.I., Trey Songz, Trina, and others. Further singles arrived in 2019, among them “Six Flags” featuring Plies and “Amir.” Following the 2020 EP Stimulus Package, Jetz faced backlash after posting a video that jokingly minimized George Floyd’s death during a playful scuffle with a friend. She answered the criticism with the 2021 album Cancel Culture.
