Emerging from the Memphis streets with a tough yet charismatic presence, rapper/singer Jucee Froot channeled the city’s tradition through bass-heavy production, a popping flow, and lyrics that pulled no punches, echoing the approach of Yo Gotti and Young Dolph. By the mid-2010s she had become an underground favorite, steadily building a local audience through viral freestyles and a steady stream of mixtapes that ultimately secured a 2020 contract with Atlantic Records and the release of her major-label debut, Black Sheep.

Born Terrica Alexander, the Tennessee native spent her early years studying piano and writing songs. Once she turned to rapping, she distinguished herself by crafting her own hooks and shifting fluidly between hardcore verses and melodic singing. That range surfaced on her debut mixtape, Diamond in the Rough (Loyal 100 Entertainment), issued in 2015 and featuring fellow Memphis rapper Young Dolph. The following year she dropped Jackin for Beats, which contained her take on Drake’s “Hotline Bling.” A wave of projects arrived in 2017: Dripping Diamonds, Concrete Rose, Rich Girl, and King of Memphis. In 2019 she released the poignant single “Live On,” written in tribute to her boyfriend who had been killed in a 2015 shooting, along with the projects Sextape and Schizophrenic Flow. After signing with Atlantic, she gained wider attention when “Danger” was placed on the soundtrack for the 2020 all-female film Birds of Prey. Her label debut, Black Sheep, followed that March and featured Rico Nasty, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, and Juicy J, along with the hit single “Sidewalk.” While the album was gaining traction, she contributed “Eat Itself” to Insecure: Music from the HBO Original Series, Season 4.
