Baby Tate seeks to inspire and strengthen listeners through honest lyrics paired with an energetic, vividly hued blend of hip-hop, R&B, and pop. The Georgia artist has climbed steadily since the middle of the 2010s, first appearing on the charts alongside Saweetie via the 2016 single “Hey, Mickey!” Before the decade closed she issued her debut full-length Girls and earned her initial RIAA-certified gold plaque as a guest on Ashnikko’s “Stupid.” She also contributed to the Grammy-nominated Revenge of the Dreamers III compilation and to the fourth-season soundtrack of Insecure. A Warner Records contract has since yielded the 2022 mixtape Mani/Pedi and the 2023 EP Sexploration: The Musical, while another gold-certified track, JID’s “Surround Sound,” surfaced between those projects.

Born in Atlanta and raised in nearby Decatur, Tate Farris is the daughter of musicians Dionne Farris and David Ryan Harris, who together wrote Farris’s 1995 Top Ten pop hit “I Know.” Immersed in music from childhood, she performed in choirs, studied piano, and began producing beats at age 13. Still a teenager, she released the understated, lean R&B EP ROYGBIV in 2015 under the name Yung Baby Tate. The charting single “Hey, Mickey!”—a reworking of Toni Basil’s “Mickey”—and the Xmas EP arrived in 2016, followed in 2018 by the brash Boys EP that highlighted her emerging rap abilities. The year 2019 marked a breakthrough: Girls, her first album, featured BbyMutha, Baby Rose, and Kari Faux, while her appearance on “Stupid” later earned RIAA gold status. She also appeared on the platinum-certified Revenge of the Dreamers III, nominated for Best Rap Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, and placed multiple songs on the Insecure fourth-season soundtrack. Signed to Raedio, the label founded by Insecure creator and star Issa Rae, she issued several singles in 2020 plus the EP After the Rain, which includes the Flo Milli collaboration “I Am.”

In 2021 she shortened her professional name to Baby Tate, joined the tenth season of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, and signed with Warner Records. Another Dreamville link came the following year when she joined JID on “Surround Sound,” which reached number 90 on the Billboard Hot 100—her first entry on the pop chart—before she released her own Mani/Pedi mixtape, alternating R&B and rap material. The 2023 EP Sexploration: The Musical was promoted by “Jersey,” an upbeat tribute to Jersey club music.
