Sonny Miles crafts Progressive R&B by pulling from gospel, soul, funk, and hip-hop roots, shaping them into an off-kilter yet consistently accessible sound. The Winston-Salem, North Carolina native launched his recording career in 2019 with a four-song EP and a guest spot on Lesthegenius’ “Raleighwood Hills,” a cut former U.S. President Barack Obama placed on his yearly list of favored tracks. Over the ensuing years he issued additional singles and collaborations that paved the way for his independently released debut album, Gamma, which surfaced in February 2024.

Born Jordan Chandler Williams, the artist chose his stage name in tribute to jazz figures Sonny Stitt and Miles Davis. Music captured his attention early; he began on drums during church services where his father performed in the choir, then added guitar, vocals, and self-taught production skills. While enrolled at NC State University he fronted his own band and sang with an a cappella ensemble. His first commercial offering arrived in 2019 as the self-released EP that spotlighted “Faux (Clout Commander),” soon followed by the lean single “Bedroom Hollywood.” In between those projects he joined Lesthegenius on the “Raleighwood Hills” release. Subsequent output alternated between guest appearances and concise projects such as “Prettybag,” TRE, “Country First Name,” and “Pastel Hell.” The 2023 soulful single “Wenuneed” offered the initial glimpse of his forthcoming album, which reached listeners as Gamma the next February. Later that year he paired with BeMyFiasco for “Red Light Fantasy,” featured on the Pretty Little Love EP.
