Stillborn

Stillborn emerged in 1988 with designs on being hailed as Sweden's most crushing metal outfit, eventually locking in vocalist Henke, guitarists Kim and Henning, bassist Sam, and drummer Peter. Sweden's highest-circulation newspaper coined their signature sound tag after the band's 1992 Scandinavian trek, citing the group's commanding stage force and lyrics fixated on doom. Launched initially as a quartet, Stillborn crystallized an abrasive, menacing identity on Necrospirituals. Once the lineup expanded to five members by 1990, Permanent Solution arrived that same year as a sleeker yet unrelenting statement. Widespread print and airplay exposure prompted Roadrunner Records to secure European licensing for the album. State of Disconnection retained the prior releases' savagery while granting the band their first foothold in overseas markets, drawing strong notices from metal periodicals across the globe.
