Sylvain Cossette established a prominent presence within Quebec’s French Canadian pop landscape, moving more than half a million records across a fifteen-year span. He was born in Quebec in May 1963. His earliest public exposure arrived through the English-language Quebec band Paradox, which was formed in 1984. In 1994 Cossette stepped away from English-language work and ensemble performances to begin a solo career centered on French material. Numerous successful albums followed, along with stage roles in the musicals Notre Dame de Paris and Dracula at venues throughout Canada and Europe. In 2007 the multiple Felix Music Award winner issued his first all-English album, 70's. The record opened at number one in Quebec and number two on the Canadian charts. It also registered strongly on English-language tallies, becoming the fastest-selling release of his career. He ushered in the 2007-2008 transition with a supporting tour that reached multiple cities across Quebec.
