TeaMarrr

TeaMarrr first surfaced in 2017 as an R&B performer whose unfiltered, outspoken manner shaped songs that touched on pop culture, intimate encounters, and reckless conduct. Blending R&B, hip-hop, dance-pop, and swing, she issued her major-label debut album Before I Spill Myself in 2020.

Born Thamar Noel in Boston, she was barred from weekday television during childhood and therefore began composing music at an early age to occupy herself. After training as a video director and editor, she shed her inhibitions in 2015 and launched a performing career. Shedding earlier shyness for a candid, combative stage identity under the alias TeaMarrr—Totally Enthused About Making Art Really Really Raw—she delivered her first recording, the self-released EP Thanks for the Chapstick, in 2017.

Her 2018 single “One Job” opened an episode of the HBO series Insecure and surpassed a million streams. Grammy nominee H.E.R. then chose TeaMarrr to open her concerts. Around the same time, Insecure writer, producer, and actress Issa Rae launched her Raedio label in partnership with Atlantic Records and signed TeaMarrr as its inaugural artist. Raedio released the single “Kinda Love” in October 2019, shortly before TeaMarrr made her first live television appearance at the 2019 Soul Train Music Awards. The album Before I Spill Myself followed on Raedio/Atlantic in May 2020.
